Ndlwene

PlatAfrica

Plat Africa ring,18ct yellow gold, cubic zirconia

Gandaganda matsiyo intsimbi zabelungu. Intsusa mabala eyenze ndenza lomsesane isukela kwivili leGandaganda(Tractor). Nje ngomntu okhulele ezilalini kulinywa ngeGandaganda ukuze  kuphume izityalo uvune obukulimile(you reap what you sow). The isixhosa version is directly translated to someone who has achieved the goals he/she has earned through difficult times. The reason why I chose this title, it is because metaphorically it depicts how my client reaps what she has sowed. Nonetheless Abagail is a person who came from a low-income family and, she has managed to start her own coding camp giving back to the underprivileged girls. So as the seed that has been plowed by the tractor appears(Emergence) on the soil to be grabbed by those who want to develop their skills. My design hook is inspired by the Modern nouveau, which has a dynamic line because my design forces the sense of movement as for the three bands of platinum are stitched together to form connection. The three bands are not soldered together, the only thing that ties the bands is the stitching.

This jewellery piece is designed based on a conceptual point of view and it is inspired by cable knitting patterns. My piece is enhanced by this technique of stitching.

Isiphandla

A bracelet like this is made out of goat or sometimes in a cow skin. There are specific parts where you can cut this bangle on these animals. It is either on the eye socket of a goat, or on the lag of a cow.

The Zulu bangle is worn to create a connection with the ancestors. It is also used for many traditional purposes. There are certain rules that you can not break while wearing Isiphandla. For example as a wearer before cutting the wristband off you must inform your ancestor
